James is a lifelong resident of Oshawa. James obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo in 1971, his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Windsor in 1974, and was called to the bar in Ontario in 1976. He articled with Terry Kelly, and once called to the bar, he went on to establish his own successful large law firm. He then branched out on his own to be a sole practitioner for several years prior to his daughters joining the firm.
He has extensive experience in real estate, business, wills, estates, litigation, and tax law. He has practiced in all of Ontario’s courts.
Until his retirement, James was a judge of the Superior Court of Justice, Small Claims Court, for over 30 years, always fairly and equitably applying his skills and knowledge to the cases before him.
James formally retired a few years ago and is enjoying life as a snowbird and avid golfer.
James was an active volunteer member of various community organizations, including human rights organizations, during his legal career. He was a sought-after speaker for various organizations, often appearing in televised debates advocating for the rights of small business owners.
James welcomed his daughter, Kelly, to the law practice in 2000 and his daughter, Laurie, to the law practice in 2003. James instilled in his daughters the ambition to help others achieve their goals with compassion, hard work and diligence.
