Kelly A. Aitchison has been in law practice since 2000, but has almost 40 years of experience in the legal field, having commenced her journey as a legal assistant and law clerk prior to graduating from law school.
She attended Huron University at the University of Western Ontario and graduated with an Honors BA in Philosophy. She then attended the University of Windsor to work on a Master of Philosophy degree alongside an expert in the field of early modern philosophy.
Graduating from the University of Western Ontario law school in 1998, she then articled in London, Ontario, at the firm of McKenzie Lake; and after being called to the bar in 2000, she returned home to Oshawa to join her father’s law firm, where she has practiced since.
To further her legal expertise in order to assist clients, she obtained a Master of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
In 2025, she obtained The Osgoode Certificate in Law Teaching from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University.
Her practice spans all areas of family law, civil litigation, tax appeals, real estate, wills and estate administration, corporate/commercial, employment law, personal injury, and municipal law. She also has a busy real estate, mortgages, wills, estate planning, and estate administration practice.
Further Professional Activities
Kelly has served on the boards of various community organizations and was actively involved with the Durham Region Law Association on the board of directors and as editor of the association’s Newsletter, the DURLAW Voice, as well as editor of the association’s Monthly Business Report for several years. She held positions on various committees within the association, such as finance and human resources.

She spent 9 years as a director of the Lakeridge Health Foundation, being the maximum term permitted, and 7 of those years as Chair of their Governance and Nominating Committee. In this role, Kelly has gained extensive experience in non-profit organizations and their governance, corporate structure, and the bylaws that govern such organizations, including obtaining a certificate in corporate governance.
She is currently the supervising counsel for Pro Bono Students Canada, Lincoln Alexander School of Law Chapter. In this role, she oversees the Will clinic by providing law students with the education, tools, and oversight necessary to draft wills and powers of attorney.
For the past several years, she has been a mentor with the Durham Region Law Association, assisting new counsel in all aspects of litigation and estate work.
Kelly has worked alongside the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, offering free Will clinics and has given seminars at various corporations on the benefits of estate planning. She also works alongside various real estate brokerages, offering real estate law seminars, and assists legal charities by providing pro bono legal services.
The Ontario Justice Education Network works to strengthen public understanding of the legal system. Kelly served for several years on the local committee of the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice, assisting with the development of programs for high school law students in collaboration with Durham College. She has aided teachers by speaking in law courses in high schools and has assisted with coordinating and teaching professional development programs for high school law teachers.
From 2015 to 2025, she was the Chief Operating Officer of Upper Canada Funding, a local mortgage brokerage company focused on complicated mortgage approvals for clients seeking to purchase a home.
